I re-did the zenital primer on my trolls after I had added the extra bits of Blood Bowl kit to them. Then I continued painting with my airbrush to get some practice in. Since they are larger models it seemed like a good choice for practicing on.
I had decent success with doing the grey on their back and the pale grey on the stomach and face. Switching over to traditional brush, I painted the barrels brown and imagined the team colour would have just been sloppily painted on top of the barrel, allowing for the brown to show through in places.
I did a bit of dry brushing on the back to pick out the ridges of the scales, I was probably a bit heavy handed with this, a bit less severe application and a more even coverage would have been better.
When I applied the wash on the trolls it was not looking great over the stomach. I tried to tidy it up with very thin paint like a glaze, but it didn't go as easily as I had hoped. I believe now in hindsight that I should have braved it and loaded up the airbrush again and tried to glaze with that instead.
The wash was a bit dark on the shoulder pads as well but it's good enough. The snotlings are also quite dark so it doesn't stand out.
I did the vambraces in a bronze to contrast against the grey. Painted the stone a greenish grey simply because I needed a different colour than the skin.
The green grass works nicely as a bright saturated contrast to the model.
I think Booker & Sheldon (Orson's Farm) came out alright.
I kept the bark brown. I was afraid it wouldn't come out right trying to paint it red, and I feel the team colours were properly established by the shoulder pads.
The Old School trolls ended up with a lot more metal details. The troll to the right looks outright blingy.
The team colours are blue and grey, blue skinned snotlings with grey loin cloths. So, as the trolls have grey skin, they have blue elements, making them the reverse. I did not feel right painting the obvious fur loin cloth blue so kept it brown for contrast and put the blue on the wrist straps and shoulder pads. I added a white stipe to the shoulder pads to brighten things up.
The brass dulled down alright with the wash.
I managed to wash some brown saturation back in the loin cloth. I think I used some thinned mix of contrast paints.
I did the stones hanging from the chains in the team colours to avoid introducing further colours and overwhelming the model.
Brass knuckles.
I really like this troll, he is full of character.
I need to do a little bit of cleaning up on the base rim again after some snow mess. I will do that when I paint on the player number.
The earrings and straps add nice contrasting details to break up the grey.
I think the shoulder pad came out really well and looks weathered and beaten up. I also like how the eye turned out.
