Kaldezeit is the month I tend to dedicate to Geheimnisnacht specials but the month is also affectionately known as Orctober and since I still haven't finished my Black Orc Team it felt appropriate to show them some love and attention.
I've chipped away at the team, my main goal was to sit down and do a bit of painting every now and then. My wet pallet was not in use for a lot of the process so the paint is a bit thick in places (nothing monstrous) but I preferred to crack on and do some painting, rather than get distracted by sorting out the pallet. I've done some edge highlights on the black armour to try and give the black mass some definition and interest. I still need to go over the leather in places and might give the skin some attention. Might highlight the white a bit.
I did all the bases when I did the base for the troll. Even though they are not finished, I decided to add some tuffts one day as it was a small achievable step. It also allows me to ponder and percolate over if I want some more tufts as it is a bit sparse on the grass front at the moment but the dirt contrast well against the models in a way grass would not.
Troll and balls are more or less done. The team marker skull looks too dark so I'm contemplating trying to do a wet dry brush to brighten up the skull a bit, but need to be careful so I don't undo all the work I've done on the black.
Next up I want to challenge myself with a bit of freehand. The orcs are a good choice for this since it can be a bit crude and rough, so if my freehand painting isn't the greatest, it will still suit the style of these players. The reference picture above is GW's paint job, and I actually think that the white triangle detail they have incorporated will help break up the black on my teams and give it some interest. I don't know if it will undo a lot of the edge highlights I've done but it might help tie everything together.
