Khemri and Amazons was up for Made To Order so I picked both teams. I didn't have a plan to do them now. But I had a look at the Khemri models and it sort of just happened.
Khemri Tomb Kings Blood Bowl Team. This team does not come with assembly instructions and is one of the more finicky team to assemble so I will write up some tips on keeping them together.Box came quicker than I expected. I order two of these so I would have enough Mummies so if somebody needs any extra skeletons I can hook you up.
Torso Sprues, I contemplated replacing these with plastic torsos but didn't in the end, still to be determined if it was the right call.
Legs. Two different Models; straight legs and slightly shifted. 7 to 3 split in both boxes. I've seen old pictures from GW where there are players with the ankle band is on their right leg but look like that is just GW mirroring the photos, there are only two casts of legs to my knowledge.
Collar Sprues. With todays extreme fashion and jewellery I'm surprised we don't see more of these full big collar pieces looking at pictures for painting inspiration they where something extra.
Positional Head Sprues. The only place I found where it tells you which head is for which position is in the Blood Bowl Magazine Issue 3. Which states the Vulture head to be the Thro-Ra and the other one as the Blitz-Ra
Tomb Guardians or Mummies. There isn't a massive difference between these two models, head and one got a cloth around the hips. Wouldn't be as bad if you only had two but with four I don't know if I have to be a bit inventive with painting them.
I found these when looking through ebay for some nice bits for conversions. I feel they capture the essence of Khemri and Tomb Kings very well and though I probably can use them for Markers/Counters.
Softnose Pliers I used these quite a lot in this project. I used them to alter the legs to different poses. Just bend in the knee a bit more altering the angle in the hip just enough to give a bit more variation and personality to the players. I also went over some of the arms and adjusted the elbow angle. They wheren't as easy to manipulate and get the bend to happen in the right places.
I also seen people cut of the Mummies raised arm and put it back downwards. I gave it a bit of a tweak with the pliers. I had a bit of cracking but that is easily sorted and with the bandages and being mummies it isn't that bad as it is to be honest.
Tabs, we need to address these Fanatic GW 2001 Tabs. I haven't tried putting them in the old bases they come with so can't speak for that. But I have been putting them in the new Blood Bowl Bases and the tab is way too thick for that. Forcing it with pliers will just wreck the base which I learn the hard way.
Tab Back. You can sort of see that I have started filling down the tab to thin it enough so it can slot down in to the base. It needs more filing than what you would think.
This team is prone to falling apart both in play and in model. Pinning will be a necessity. Pin vice, and I used my home made scraper to create pilot holes. I used my normal paperclip size for Leg+Torso, Legs+Loincloth, Torso+Head. I've ordered a 0.5mm drill bit to do the Shoulder Pad+Arm+Torso because the drill I got was too blunt.
Cleaned up all bits and distributed them in to project bags. The linemen have 9 bits if you count the base.
I didn't want to duplicate the metal heads too much so I got some of the plastic Khemri heads. I might have overdone it on the plastic heads but thought they might be less trouble than metal. Getting a bit of hubris from that thought so I didn't pin the plastic heads which might been a mistake.
Torso drilled to be pinned. On the legs I drilled one hole in the spine to connect to the torso and the legs and then one hole in the bottom of the spine in the front to pin the loin cloth.
Arm Pinning, I started the pilot hole to go through the arm and in to the torso. Letting a bit of the pin sticking out allowing to pin the shoulder pad in place. You can see the pin holding the loin cloth in this angle. Hopefully the paint job will hide it a bit better.
Head Pin. The Positional heads require you to cut off the neck stump to fit their heads. However that gives you a nice flat area to put a pin in.
Anointed Throwers or Thro-Ras if you prefer, I prefer the later. They have the easiest head to attach. I made sure to give them different legs and different loincloth. I’ve seen GW assembling them with knee pads instead of shoulder pads so might do that on one to help telling them apart.
Anointed Blitzers or Blitz-Ras. GW show these with out collars I've seen other people assemble them with collars and it looks quite nice so I though one of each to help differentiate between them. But I think the pose is probably enough.
Skeletons Plastic Arms from Chariot Sprue. Haven't decided if I should try to work with the neck or cut them off for easier pinning of the metal heads.
Instead of going with the usual Tomb King or Lichee priest model for Coach I plan on making one from bits from the Chariot Sprue.
