I started this blog back in 2011 to fill a gap I had noticed in the hobby online. It seemed to me that it would be interesting to see other people's progress when building their armies and I struggled to find content of this kind. I decided I was going to make a night goblin army and document my work. My team had made their home in an extremely snowy region, deep within Troll Country. As a Swede I feel justified in acting as an authority on 'real' snow and my goblins would be trudging through several feet of the proper stuff, rather than the pathetic patches that can be seen on most winter bases. I named the army and the associated blog 'The Night Goblin Tribe of Snow White Hills'. Quite a mouth full.
As time moved on and I diversified the content, I dropped the Night Goblin tribe bit but stuck with 'Snow White Hills'. It was part of the web address but it has never been that descriptive of what I do, so I have finally decided it is time to rebrand to something that better reflects my subject matter. With the announcement of the next edition of Blood Bowl coming I thought that now would be the perfect time to strike.
The change over might be a bit choppy but I'll do my best to put some redirects in place once I have changed the blog name and address. I believe that if you hit the follow button over on the side menu (or lower down for mobile), the blog gets added to your Google account reading list and that should carry over to the new address. I did just find out that the follow widget doesn't display on all browsers, which isn't very helpful. I will migrate my content and set up an informational post that links to the new address when the move has happened. I won't announce the name and address until I've locked it in. I hope to see you there soon.
Let's have a quick peak at the announcement of the upcoming new edition of Blood Bowl. It's been two weeks since it dropped and we have yet to hear anything more. Maybe we will get some further information in November or December but I'm quite optimistic from what the article touched on. There isn't that much to go on and to be honest, most podcasts have covered this material extensively, with quite a lot of speculation thrown in. We have been a bit starved on news this year so I don't blame them, but I won't bore you too much by going over old ground. There are just a couple of exciting hints we've been given that I wanted to cover on one of the teams in particular.
The Brionne Barons from fair Bretonnia take on the Nehekhara Nightmares. The article says the Bretonnians are totally new to the tabletop but that isn't quite true. The digital game 'Blood Bowl II' featured the Bretonnian team very prominently. Even though this was a digital appearance, they were played at table top tournaments as well as the same ruleset was used for tabletop.
However, even before this, Bretonnian teams have had rules. In the first edition of Blood Bowl, the Deathzone expansion introduced us to the 'Albion Wanderers'. Although not expressly referenced as 'Bretonnian' since the fantasy world hadn't been fleshed out yet, you could field heavily armoured knights and peasants, that had all the aesthetic markers of a Bretonnian team. The class inequality we've come to expect was present here too, with special rules forcing the serfs to hand over the ball to the Knights.
In the year 2000, we got the 'Blood Bowl Compendium 3' for the 3rd edition of Blood Bowl which featured rules for Bretonnian teams along with suggested models to use as at this time there were no specific models made for a Bretonnian team. The rules were brought over to 4th edition in Blood Bowl Magazine 1.
In Compendium 3, there is also some interesting lore in which we learn about the most famous Bretonnian team, the Port D'Aquitaine Power. It also mentions 'The Team Errant' and 'The Lions of Couronne'.
'The Bright Crusaders', often listed as a human team, are also mentioned here as a Bretonnian team, which makes sense as the lore always highlights them as especially chivalrous. In fact, in 2016 Forge World released an expensive add-on kit that converted a normal human team into to the 'Bright Crusaders'. This gave the humans a style makeover with what looked akin to traditional full plate armour, a fitting kit for a Bretonnian team. I wonder if the eagerly awaited new edition will list them as human or Brettonian?
I'll leave that nugget there for now, but might revisit it at a later date when I have finished a bit more lore gathering. See you at the new site soon!
