There are a lot of rumors floating around about a new edition of Blood Bowl. It has been 5 years since the Blood Bowl 2nd Season Edition came out in 2020, but I personally was hoping for a finished set of teams before we started over again. However, I have seen more and more Blood Bowl kits silently disappearing from the website.
I ordered this Star Player set as soon as it came up for pre-order because it was tagged 'while stock last', implying that this was a limited run. This didn't make much sense to me as Games Workshop would want to make as much money back from their investment in sculpting and mold making. The only explanation I saw would be if they needed to change things for the new edition. Although, that explanation still doesn't make a lot of sense as why would they invest in something that would get outdated so soon if there is a new edition coming? I now believe the explanation is a lot simpler. It no longer says 'while stock last' on the website. Instead it says 'online only', so this might have been a simple human input error.
This is a bigger kit so it wouldn't fit in the normal packaging. I received two appropriately sized bases this time. One 40mm for Maple Highgrove and one 25mm for Swiftvine Glimmershard.
When the kit arrived it came in the box pictured above, which again made me wonder if Games Workshop were going to scrap the whole red and blue branding colour scheme and there would be no front card. But as you saw from the previous picture there was a front card, the kit probably just couldn't fit in the usual clam pack.
It has been a long time since I received models packed with foam from Games Workshop. So it was a pleasant surprise to see these delicate little pieces were sandwiched between layers of foam.
Other side. There seem to be a lot of flash to clean up on this kit but it is understandable with the intricacy of the models.
In the second section of the tub there wasn't any foam and had these larger branches.
Maple will go well with my Kurnoth Hunters converted treemen as they seem to draw from that aesthetic.

Surprisingly they included Forge World's 'A Guide to Building Resin Model Kits'. Yes it's a resin kit but so are all the other Star Players. I guess this is a bit bigger and they had room for it in the bigger box.
Other side of the pamphlet.
